Post Writing Preferences

To configure your default writing preferences, go to HighGround → Settings, then click the Writing tab.

These settings apply to every new post automatically. You can override any of them on a per-post basis directly in the editor, so think of these as your sensible defaults rather than locked-in rules.

Content Type

Toggle between Posts and Pages to set which content type these defaults apply to.

Sections

Controls how many sections (H2 headings) the AI generates for each post. Options range from 3 to 20. A shorter post like a news update might only need 3–5 sections, while a comprehensive guide could call for 12 or more. This works hand-in-hand with your word count setting - longer posts generally benefit from more sections to keep the content organized and scannable.

Word Count

Sets the approximate target length for generated posts, ranging from ~500 to ~10,000 words. These are targets, not hard limits - actual output may vary slightly depending on the topic and structure. Choose a default that matches your typical content strategy and adjust per-post when needed.

Style

Sets the writing tone for generated content. Six options are available: Casual, Business, Academic, Conversational, Journalistic, and Technical. Pick the one that best matches your brand voice. If you need something more nuanced, you can further refine the tone using the Global Writing Instructions field below.

Images

When set to Yes, the AI will include image placements within the post. Set to No to generate text-only content.

Lists

Controls whether the AI uses bullet and numbered lists in the content. Yes allows lists freely, No disables them entirely, and Minimal allows occasional lists only when they genuinely improve readability - keeping the content more prose-driven overall.

Tables

Set to Yes to allow the AI to generate tables where they add value, such as comparisons or data summaries. Set to No to exclude tables entirely.

Blocks

Blocks are structured content sections injected into your posts. You can configure up to 3 blocks per post from the following types:

  • Key Takeaways - A summary of the most important points, typically placed near the top of the post.
  • FAQs - A frequently asked questions section with structured Q&A pairs.
  • Answer Block - A concise, direct answer to the post’s primary query, useful for targeting featured snippets.

References

Controls how external sources are handled in the content. No excludes references entirely. Links Only inserts hyperlinks inline without additional context. Links and Titles includes both the hyperlink and the source title, giving readers more context about where the reference leads.

Global Writing Instructions

A free-text field that gets prefixed to every AI request. Use this to describe your brand voice, target audience, recurring preferences, or anything else the AI should keep in mind across all content. For example, you might write something like “Write for small business owners. Avoid jargon. Keep sentences short.” A Restore to default option is available if you want to reset this field.

Call to Action (Conclusion)

A free-text field for defining a call to action that gets woven into the conclusion of every new post. This is a good place to direct readers toward a product, service, newsletter signup, or next step that’s consistent across your content. Like the Global Writing Instructions, a Restore to default option is available.

Saving

Click Save Settings to apply your changes. Your new defaults will take effect on the next post you generate. Existing posts are not affected.
