To configure image resizing, go to HighGround → Settings, then click the Images tab.
Source images - particularly from stock photo providers like Freepik - often come in at very large resolutions that hurt page load times and Core Web Vitals scores. HighGround can automatically resize images to consistent dimensions before saving them to your WordPress Media Library, so every image in your content is optimized from the start.
Resize Mode
Three modes are available:
Crop to Fixed Dimensions - Resizes and crops every image to the exact width and height you specify. This guarantees perfectly consistent image dimensions across all your posts, which keeps your layout clean and predictable. When this mode is selected, two additional fields appear where you set your target Crop to Width (px) and Crop to Height (px).
Flexible Dimensions - Resizes images to fit within your specified width and height while preserving the original aspect ratio. Images won’t be stretched or distorted, but dimensions may vary slightly from image to image. This is a good middle ground if you want smaller file sizes without forcing every image into an identical crop.
No Resizing (Not Recommended) - Saves images at their original resolution with no modifications. This is not recommended because source images can be several thousand pixels wide, resulting in unnecessarily large file sizes that slow down your pages and negatively impact SEO.
Choosing Dimensions
A common starting point is 1200×800px, which works well for most blog layouts and is large enough for social sharing previews. If your theme uses a narrower content column, you may be able to go smaller. The goal is to match your actual display size as closely as possible - serving a 4000px-wide image in an 800px content area is wasted bandwidth.
Saving
Click Save Settings to apply your changes. These settings take effect on the next post HighGround creates. Images already in your Media Library are not retroactively resized.
