Auto Permalink

To configure automatic permalinks, go to HighGround → Settings, then click the SEO tab.

HighGround can automatically generate short, SEO-optimized permalink slugs for new posts and pages. Instead of WordPress defaulting to your full post title - which often includes filler words like “how,” “the,” and “and” - the AI strips non-essential words and keeps only high-value keywords that matter for search rankings.

Auto Permalink

When Enabled, HighGround automatically generates an optimized slug every time a new post is created. For example, a post titled “How to Choose the Best Running Shoes for Beginners” might become /best-running-shoes-beginners/ instead of the full title. When Disabled, WordPress handles slugs using its default behavior.

Max Words

Controls the maximum number of words allowed in the generated slug, ranging from 2 to 10. Shorter slugs are generally better for SEO and readability - most well-optimized permalinks land in the 3–5 word range. Setting this too low may strip meaningful context, while setting it too high reduces the benefit of having the AI optimize the slug at all.

Custom Permalink Rules

An optional free-text field where you can provide specific instructions for how the AI generates slugs. For example, you might write “Always include the brand name” or “Prefer product category over descriptive words.” This gives you fine-grained control over slug generation beyond what the max word setting alone provides. A Restore to default option is available to reset the field.

Saving

Click Save Settings to apply your changes. These settings take effect on the next post HighGround creates. Existing post slugs are not retroactively changed.
