Answer the Question Before They Even Scroll

When someone searches a question, they want the answer - not four paragraphs of context before you get to the point. Google knows this too, which is why featured snippets and voice search results pull from content that delivers a direct answer early and clearly.

HighGround's Answer Block does exactly that. The AI reads your post title and full article content, then generates a short, direct response designed to answer the reader's query immediately. The block is placed at the top of the post (or wherever you choose), and Speakable schema is attached so voice assistants and Google know the content is suitable for text-to-speech playback.

The result: your post leads with a clear answer that satisfies search intent, improves featured snippet eligibility, and increases your chances of being the voice search result - while the rest of your article provides the depth and detail that keeps readers engaged.

Direct Answer from Your Content

The AI reads the post title and full article, then writes a concise answer to the question or topic - not a generic summary, a targeted response.

Featured Snippet Optimization

A clear, direct answer at the top of your post is exactly what Google looks for when selecting featured snippets. The Answer Block is built for this.

Speakable Schema (JSON-LD)

Structured data that tells Google and voice assistants your answer is suitable for text-to-speech. Increases eligibility for voice search results.

Four Placement Options

Top of post, before first heading, after post, or manual Gutenberg block - put the answer wherever it makes sense for your content.

Step by step

How the Answer Block Works

Configure once, and every post gets a direct answer block - optimized for search and voice.

1

Enable the Answer Block in Your Writing Preferences

Go to HighGround → Settings → Writing and make sure the Answer Block is enabled as one of your content blocks. This tells HighGround to generate an answer as part of its content pipeline for every new post.

2

Set Your Block Title

Go to HighGround → Settings → Blocks. Enter the heading you want displayed above the answer. The default works for most sites, but you can customize it to “Short Answer,” “Quick Answer,” “The Bottom Line,” “In Brief,” or whatever matches your editorial voice. This heading is used consistently across all posts.

3

Choose Your Placement

Select where the answer block appears: Top of Post for immediate answers, Before First Heading to let your intro provide context first, After Post as a conclusion-style summary, or Manual to position it anywhere via the Gutenberg block.

4

Enable Speakable Schema

Toggle Speakable Schema to “Enabled” so HighGround attaches JSON-LD structured data that tells search engines and voice assistants the answer content is suitable for text-to-speech playback. This is the markup that makes your content eligible for voice search results.

5

Customize the Prompt (Optional)

Use the Custom Prompt field to guide how the AI writes the answer. “Keep the answer under two sentences.” “Always start with a direct yes or no.” “Write at a 6th-grade reading level.” Whatever instructions you provide shape every answer block going forward. Restore to default is available anytime.

Search Visibility

Built for Featured Snippets and Voice Search

The Answer Block targets the two highest-visibility placements in search results - and gives Google exactly what it needs.

Featured snippets are the boxes Google displays at the top of search results with a direct answer to the query. They get clicked more than any other organic result - and Google pulls them from content that delivers a clear, concise response near the top of the page. The Answer Block gives you that structure on every post automatically.

Voice search takes it a step further. When someone asks Google Assistant a question, Google reads an answer aloud - and it selects that answer from content marked with Speakable schema. HighGround's Speakable JSON-LD markup tells Google exactly which part of your page is designed for text-to-speech, pointing directly to your Answer Block content.

Most sites never implement Speakable schema because it requires manual JSON-LD coding on every page. HighGround injects it automatically on every post that includes an Answer Block - so your entire content library becomes eligible for voice search results without any extra work.

Flexible Positioning

Four Ways to Position the Answer Block

Each placement serves a different content strategy.

Top of Post - The answer appears at the very beginning, before any other content. Readers get the response immediately. This is the strongest option for search-intent-driven content where users want a fast answer - and it's the placement most likely to be pulled as a featured snippet.

Before First Heading - The answer appears after your introduction but before the first H2 section. Your intro provides context and hooks the reader, then the direct answer previews the conclusion before they dive into the detail. A good balance between editorial flow and answer visibility.

After Post - The answer appears at the end of the article as a conclusion-style summary. Useful when you want readers to go through the full content before seeing the distilled response - common for opinion pieces, analysis, and posts where the answer requires context to make sense.

Manual (Gutenberg Block) - HighGround doesn't auto-insert the block. A dedicated Answer Block is available in the Gutenberg editor for you to place anywhere - mid-article, in a sidebar, inside a comparison section, wherever it fits.

Voice Search

Speakable Schema - Get Your Content Read Aloud by Google

A low-effort, high-upside optimization that most sites ignore.

Speakable is a structured data type (JSON-LD) that identifies sections of a page as appropriate for audio playback by voice assistants like Google Assistant. When a user asks a question by voice, Google selects content marked as speakable and reads it aloud as the answer.

HighGround attaches Speakable schema automatically to every post with an Answer Block. The markup points directly to the answer content, telling Google this is the section designed to be spoken - not the full article, not a random paragraph, but the concise response you generated specifically for this purpose.

This is a low-effort, high-upside optimization that most sites ignore because the manual implementation is tedious. With HighGround, it's a toggle.

Common Questions

FAQ

The Answer Block is a concise, direct answer to the question or topic in your post title. HighGround's AI reads the post title and full article content, then generates a short response designed to answer the reader's query immediately - optimized for featured snippets and voice search.

The Key Takeaways block provides a multi-point bullet summary of the article's main ideas. The Answer Block provides a single, direct answer to the specific question or topic in the post title. Takeaways summarize breadth; the Answer Block targets the core query. You can use both on the same post.

Speakable is structured data (JSON-LD) that tells search engines and voice assistants which part of your page is suitable for text-to-speech playback. When Google Assistant answers a voice query by reading content aloud, it selects from pages with Speakable markup. HighGround attaches this schema automatically to every post with an Answer Block.

Yes. Featured snippets pull from content that delivers a clear, concise answer near the top of the page. The Answer Block provides exactly that structure - a direct response to the query, placed prominently in the post. While Google's snippet selection isn't guaranteed, the Answer Block gives your content the format Google is looking for.

Yes. The Custom Prompt field lets you guide the AI's output. Examples: “Keep the answer under two sentences,” “Always start with a direct yes or no,” “Write at a 6th-grade reading level.” A restore-to-default option is available if you want to reset.

Four options: Top of Post (before any content), Before First Heading (after your intro), After Post (as a conclusion), or Manual (a Gutenberg block you position anywhere in the editor).

Yes. Both blocks are independently configurable. A common setup is the Answer Block at the top of the post (targeting the core query) and Key Takeaways after the intro (summarizing the article's broader points).

Answer Block settings are applied automatically to new posts, but you can also add or regenerate an answer on any existing post. Use the “Update With HighGround” one-click link in your Posts list or trigger an update from the editor - the refreshed post will generate a new answer based on your current settings.
